trd: little visitor

Tama had begun to notice strange patterns in his mother and Acacia's behaviour. They would leave every few days only to return angry later. When xe asked where they went they would either avoid the question or, be vague. They smelled odd afterwards as well. A sharp smell that Tama couldn't pin point. So one day xe followed them. Tamius hadn't told xyr siblings or Romulus, for fear that they would not let xem go. Tama sat under a horse drawn carriage waiting for them to leave the place, they did not take long this time, and once they were out of sight the cub dashed into the strange room they had left.

Latrell lay in his cage, pressed against the sides of his tiny little prison; Quentin was his only real comfort in the dark, cold world he'd been thrust into. The bruises, cuts, and scrapes that covered his tiny body were painful, but the pain had been there every day. It was more dull now, less searing as the days wore on. His eyes fluttered open when he heard pawsteps... these pawsteps were smaller. Either a very small hunter had entered, or this was ... a cub? Latrell rolled over, despite his protesting wounds, and looked at who was entering. It was most definitely a cub; Latrell decided to stay quiet until xe walked closer.

Tama slowly peered into the darkness. This place smelled terrible, the same smell that clung to xyr mothers pelt. It was disgusting.

Xe walked in with a scrunched in nose. What were these cats doing here? Xe wondered walking past an empty cage.

The little cub was walking closer... Latrell crawled closer to the front of the cell and watched xem. "Hey... are you supposed to be here?" Latrell said quietly; his tone was gentle, and if he didn't look like he was ready to keel over and die, he probably would've looked welcoming to the cub. Latrell could see as the cub scrunched up xyr nose; it probably did smell awful in the room, but Latrell couldn't tell anymore- he'd since grown whatever nasty odor permeated the prisons.

Tama gasped and jumped back when one of the cats spoke. "T-That's none of your business." Xe hissed back, crouching low in fear.

Latrell couldn't help but laugh- he'd never have thought that he would ever remotely resemble something to be afraid of. "Woah, buddy... I don't bite. And I won't snitch." Xe seemed so inexperienced... had the cub ever been in this room? "Is this your first time here?"

Xe hummed thinking to themselves, "If you don't bite, how do you eat." Tama asked ignoring his question.

Latrell stared at the cub, not knowing what to say. Were all hunters so hard to talk to, to befriend? Hell, even tolerate was a strong word, considering some of the personalities he'd seen in Rome. They'd been so nice when Latrell had been one of their own... times changed, he guessed. "I can eat just fine, actually. Okay, I answered your question; now you have to answer mine," Latrell negotiated.

Tama huffed at the simple answer, "Fine whats your question."

Latrell thought for a second- he might only get one chance to ask a question and actually get an honest answer. He immediately felt himself think of Romulus... that was about the only question he could ask that actually mattered. "How's... how's Romulus? We have history... is he doing okay?"

"Romulus..." it took Tama a moment to realize he was talking about xyr father. "Oh! Of course why wouldn't he be?"

Latrell immediately felt a smile appear on his face, and for the first time in days, he actually got to experience a rush of joy. It was accompanied with sadness- Romulus would never be on friendly terms with Latrell after all that had happened... but, still, he was okay! "He is? That's so great! I-I have so many questions... what's he been doing lately? I miss him," Latrell told the little cub, his sentences almost slurring- he was talking fast, almost too fast, but he couldn't help it... he hadn't been so genuinely excited in a long time.

"Hopefully getting me some dessert ! Yesterday he made me try some gross bird, bleh.  I think it was called a pheasant, his master gave it to us special but it tasted terrible and I kept getting feathers in my mouth. I hate feathers, they feel all scratchy on my tounge. He promiseeddd something good today, I hope its something sweet. Maybe some honey! That tasted really nice all gooey and yum. We had that special too, but 'cacia gave it to us. Mom said we couldn't have too much, but if its for dessert that's okay right ? I had a whole feather stuck in my 'tooths'  I deserve something good. "

Tama stared at the other cat, quickly noticing how his mood had changed. Xe flattened their ears in confusion. "I could try and bring you some, if it is honey I mean. There's no need to cry about it. "

Latrell chuckled. "Oh, I'm fine! I cry about every little thing, to be honest. But... if you did have the time, I would like some honey. It's very kind of you to consider bringing me some; I'm sure your parents are proud of you." Xyr parents actually probably weren't proud of xem talking to a member of the enemy group, but xyr kindness was a virtue xe needed to hold onto.

Tama shook xyr head "You do know them, you were asking about him. Romulus and Selina."
